About Me

To the reader of my brilliant blog

Tena koe.  Nga mihi ki a koe – Greetings , I am so very glad to have you here. As I  would normally ask my visitors please come in , find a comfy seat and relax while I pop upstairs and grab us both a well-deserved cuppa.

You seem a bit puzzled??? .  If you’re about to ask what and exactly who ‘make up’ the other or better half of me, I think we should begin with a few personal yarns , don’t you?

In brief, I am a proud granddaughter of the paramount Maori chief of Ngatiawa, hail from a small country suburb nicknamed ‘Edikum’ and live comfortably in a two storey Lockwood home with hubby who is a Painter Decorator and our pigeon pair of young adults.  We collectively keep two feline friends one called Shakes and the other Sam, who must have been Garfield’s brother in a former life.

While hubby enjoys early morning fishing retreats on his kayak, the odd game of golf and male bonding at the local club, I prefer to watch trashy movies, shop, surf, read and eat chocolate – not all at the same time mind you!  I also love gardening, listening to music, partake in mediumship and attend a weekly meditation group.

I am a very precise person and I attribute this understanding to the work of NZ author, Allison Mooney and her book, "Pressing the Right Buttons".  Five word groups as strengths that best describe the precise personality are tidy, on time, persistent, loves the Arts and energised by their inner world ie: intuition.  Now that sure is me to a T !  My ‘not so great’ traits (yes, we all have them) are that I can be too critical, pedantic and unforgiving. If you are keen to read 7 things   you didn’t need to know about me, just click here .

I believe your reason for visiting is two-fold; to find out who I really am and to check out my ‘place in ict space’.  So, if you’ve had a good look around my blog already you may notice that:

·          I use a range of widgets to indistinctly express myself, my talents and of course my love for colour and ‘bling’

·          My postings reflect the way I constantly think, question and consider others

Would you believe that those simple idiosyncrasies have in part landed me the perfect, dream job !   I am employed this year as the Facilitator of e-Learning for PeaK-ICT , a cluster of five primary schools in Kawerau, New Zealand.  While I’ve spent 18 years in banking/finance, have a background in primary teaching and am studying towards the NZ Graduate Diploma in IT with Applied e-Learning, working alongside 55 classroom practitioners and approximately 1100 students will certainly keep me challenged and on my toes.    I am so up for that !  Click here to take a sneaky peek at my job specifications.

The role as a facilitator means I have to  work on my blog these holidays.  While many people would say that is so crazy, I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I owe a great deal of thanks here to the Sue Waters , the 31 Day Challenge and my new group of e-buddies.  You see, unlike the GDITe course I hope to someday complete, I’m now in charge of time, who I team up alongside and the direction of my own learning.  I have joined a couple of social networks and my cluster map hits grow by the day.  Learning in such a way is rich, real, relevant and a whole lot cheaper:)

This brings me now to the main purpose of my blog .  I started writing posts two months ago with the intention of learning more about Web 2.0 and meeting a few new friends along the way.  It somehow turned overnight into an inquiry.   One question I conclusively have for myself as I develop this blog is, “How might creating my own Personal Learning Network make a difference in my life and in the lives of others?”

A simple request I now ask of you my reader is to leave me feedback or a brief comment by clicking here .    That would really make my day:)

If you are so inspired you could start your own blog and invite me in .  Together we will make the technological world a greater place to be by “ paving the way for our 21 Century thinkers and learners ”.

Kia kaha. Kia maia. Kia manawanui.  All the very best in your e-journey ahead.
